Microbiology Class Laboratories
Microbiology Laboratory Support Center Peter Bonanomi, Laboratory Supervisor Located in TLS 211/217, the Microbiology Laboratory Support Center supplies the day-to-day media and equipment needs for laboratory sections of many Biology undergraduate and graduate courses (primarily, but not limited to, Microbiology courses). We provide a diverse array of microbiological growth media for various courses in the Biology departments, and can also provide this service for courses in other departments at UConn, upon request. In the Microbiology courses, we strive to ensure a positive learning experience for the student, tailoring laboratory protocols to support the teaching goals of different professors. We play a major role in familiarizing new teaching assistants in the Microbiology courses with techniques used in the laboratory exercises. Some advanced students also use our facilities to learn new procedures or to pursue independent projects. In addition to our role in the teaching laboratories, we act as a resource for many research programs at the University. We make available to faculty and graduate students our collection of fungal and bacterial cultures, recipes for a wide variety of microbiological media, small amounts of unusual media components, and information on growing and storing organisms. We also provide guidance and expertise on proper hazardous waste disposal procedures to research lab personnel. Our staff consists of Peter Bonanomi, Deborah Hanna, Anna Munson and Katrina Van de Berg. |
