A major in Biological Sciences is offered jointly by the three biology departments and is supported by BCS personnel. BCS coordinates and supplies clerical and laboratory support for the biology courses at the 100's level. BCS helps to maintain scientific infrastructure for both academic and research pursuits. This infrastructure includes (but is not limited to) animal care facilities, distilled water, autoclaves and common equipment. In addition, BCS is the home of the Academic Renovations unit whose primary function is to provide new research faculty with adequate laboratory facilities through renovation of existing spaces. In its most basic articulation, the purpose of BCS is to help Biology faculty negotiate the University bureaucracy with minimum inconvenience so as to allow them to focus their efforts on the research, academic and service pursuits to which they have devoted their careers.
